World Water Day is coming up March 22nd – do you have your action planned? If not, visit this United Nations-sponsored site to find out what’s happening in your geographic locale and join in.
Each year, the UN encourages individuals, nonprofits/NGOs, governments and companies around the world to use World Water Day as a time to highlight how they’re taking action to address the world water crisis. People lack safe drinking water, industries face shortages that threaten businesses and jobs, and drought threatens large swaths of the planet. Water is life and, without adequate supplies of clean water, lives are being lost and the losses will escalate.
Already more than 1.8 million people on our planet use sources of drinking water contaminated with feces, the UN says, “putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.” World Water Day is an urgent reminder that the planet is facing several water crises at once and we all must work on solutions.
